I already posted similar pics on Facebook, but here's another pic of Morgan wearing the cone of shame:

Morgan wearing the cone of shame

The cone of shame shamed me pretty badly. As I was leaving the vet, I put the cone on top of my car so I could get Morgan and her medicine into the back seat. Then I drove off with the cone still on top of my car...

By the time I heard a thump on the back of my car from the cone falling off, I was already driving on a 5-lane road. I had to make a U-turn, wait for a gap in traffic, and then shamefully pluck the cone from the middle of the road...

Here is something that showed up when I tried to update MS Office on my Mac:

Microsoft Office 2008 Update -- Please quit the following applications before continuing with this update: Microsoft AutoUpdate

I clicked Continue and it seemed to work fine.

The post was inspired by Gene's apartment quest. The story behind this one is that I had put an ad on Craigslist for tutoring, and I figured if someone wants computers fixed I'd just name a comfortable price and enjoy the cash if they were actually willing to pay that.

Hello,

I do carry the CompTIA A+ certification for computer repair and would be happy
to assist you.

For five laptops, I will charge a flat $350 with a turnaround time of three
days. I will require Win XP serial keys provided by you. Also, while I will do
my best to clean the keyboards, it is extremely time-consuming to clean the
part under the keys because it involves removing each key individually and
replacing them. If you want cleaning under the keys then I will have to add on
an extra $25 per machine.

Regards,
David Zhang

Yeah, I've been waiting for your tracking number. Have you shipped the laptops
and the check?

Unfortunately, that was the end of it. I did call Seattle police to report certified check fraud, since the guy has a 206 (Seattle) phone number, but they wouldn't even take a report unless I lost money on it. I didn't really feel like taking one for the team so it looks like he got away this time.

Handi has an account on the Chinese Facebook clone (renren.com), so naturally I have one for stalking her. One of her Renren friends wrote a post which can be summarized as "a girl can live a life without a lover but her life will be empty and meaningless." Talk about melodramatic. The author was a dude too, which I didn't figure out until I asked Handi because the thing just sounds like a recently-dumped girl crying out of her crotch.

The best part is the excellent English. It has such spectacular paragraphs as:

however, being alive does not survive. it depends on the status of the rest of life without that man, for instance, living hell is absolutely worse than stepping forward to the real hell.
you would never know how losing, blue and painful you would feel, if the man was such charming and helpful to your past life, and then you just lost that man.
Being betraying your lover or partner is a easy case, because you can still win him back if you are really in good faith. On the other hand, being leaving and just gone-by, deep down you would know it that you deserve what you are facing the exsitence such as living hell.

I literally had to read every part of this a minimum of three times before I could figure out what was going on. In the comments section, I just couldn't resist.

Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

The author replied a few minutes later:

that is really a good point. normally, people don't think before they do. But I am sure one thing that everybody needs love.

I still haven't figured out whether I got counter-trolled.

There are so many articles out there from Apple fanboys talking about how Macs are really not that expensive. Why are these people so obnoxious? These examples always pick a Mac configuration, then add a bunch of options to a Dell machine to match it. Why not the other way around? Oh wait... because Apple doesn't let you configure its machines.

I recently bought a Mac for iPhone development. My requirements were basically the following:

Apple offers six MacBook Pro machines. The 13-inch ones have too few pixels to do any real work on. The 15-inch models start at $1799 and that one meets the rest of my requirements.

Meanwhile, at Dell:

Sure, the Mac has nice things like a backlit keyboard (actually at least one of the Dells above does too), a shiny logo, a Firewire port, blah blah blah, but who cares? That's not what I need. I imagine most people want to do X thing, which in my case is make iPhone apps, and don't care about the extra features. Too bad Apple doesn't give me a choice.

Apparently being able to do iPhone development outside my office is worth $2000 to me (resolution upgrade + sales tax). Sigh.
