Charles just left. We just worked on the trebuchet for over 5 hours. It's working pretty well, except the range is quite a lot less than expected. It's pretty sturdy, so it shouldn't fall apart during the middle of a launch, but it doesn't really look as good as we had hoped =( Oh well, function over form.

We used a test counterweight of about 0.3 kg (10 oz) and shot a small nut of maybe 5 grams. It went 7 or 8 meters (~25 feet). Certainly less than the 20m we had hoped for,  but it's really not that bad. The simulation says we should be getting 10.5 meters on a launch like this, but if the counterweight is increased to 2kg and the projectile to 0.05kg (50g), then the result is 20.8 meters. So I think we can expect to hit at least 15 meters. After range, accuracy is also a problem. It shoots 10 or 15 degrees off-center. It's going to be a challenge to hit a target...

Ed's Xanga is owning right now. The title is an image of him making fun of the obnoxiousness of Eva's Xanga.

I need some ramen.
