Why Icydog?

A lot of people ask me why I use icydog, so I wrote a page to avoid retyping the same story several dozen times. Well, here it is, which I hope isn't too long.

Intro: Ok, so back in the good old days... back when Microsoft didn't control the world... and back when Windows 95 was the newest we had....

I was over at Will's house (in those good old days, I was over at his house a whole lot), and I was at the Hotmail* site signing up for my first email account. Back then, I was as uncreative as I am now. So I asked Will for a suggestion on what to name myself. He was lazy (not so much as he is now, but still lazy) so he just told me that his name is icyair.

Why would he name himself icyair? I asked him that (for the same reason that you ask me why I am icydog -- curiosity, I guess), and he told me it was because his cousin's name was icywind. I didn't care to ask why his cousin was icywind. Either that, or I asked and got some dumb response like "I don't know," which is typical of Will. I can't remember which.

So I decided to name myself icysomething. What something contradicts with icy? Hot dog, of course! So *click* icydog was born! Yeah it's lame. Shut up, I was like 8.

There's also a more practical reason for it, something I hadn't thought of back then - the user "icydog" is never taken at any online places that require you to register. If it was, it was a reminder that I had already registered there. Except once, when icydog, icy_dog, icydog1, icydog69, and like 15 other icydogs were taken at some site (I forgot what it was already). That pissed me off. Icydog wannabe!!

*Hotmail: "back when Microsoft didn't control the world": Microsoft did not control Hotmail at the time.
