Characters/Word July 2005

This is count #5.

Intro

I took some AIM logs (the ones that were > 75 KB; about 2,000 lines) that run from between July 19 and July 11, 2004. I removed everything that wasn't user-typed (sign on/off, timestamp, screen name, etc).

Then I used Word to count words, characters, lines, and other fun stuff. The figures here include my half of the convo as well as the half from the person whose name is listed.

I think I chose more logs this time than I have in the past (even though I used the same 75 KB cutoff), because a lot of people I don't talk to much popped up in these charts.

What's Interesting

Not much interesting about the first column. The second column says that Erica is incapable of forming coherent thoughts and likes to ram everything into one line. On the other hand, anyone who isn't on that list is incapable of forming coherent thoughts and spits out jumbles of words. Somehow, Bill is in the happy medium. Weird.

Will says lol too much, and so does Gene. Everyone else doesn't say it enough.

In the last category (the haha/word % one), the top ten are small Asian girls if we choose to include Yujing and Yufei as small (more or less) Asian girls. This last ranking could be used as an indicator of how giddy and tehehehehe^^-ish someone is. I mean, looking at the names on the list, that does make sense, right? Especially near the top.

There's not much to read into in these rankings. I'm just in China with some relatives and really bored, so I did this. Nothing else to it.

Explanations

If you're confused, I'll explain here what this is supposed to mean.

Chars/Word is the average amount of letters (not including spaces) per word. Words/Line is, obviously, the average number of words per line of the log. An IM (no matter how long) is one line unless someone typed a line break into it.

lol/word % is the number of lol's per 100 words. If you were to randomly take a sample of 100 words from between Will and me, you would probably get 7 lol's. Similarly, haha/word % is the number of haha's per 100 words.
